Baitul Mukarram Mosque to get Bangabandhu digital library

Baitul Mukarram National Mosque will get a digital library to be named after Bangabandhu as Bashun-dhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir pledged to provide all-out support for the religious establishment.

He made the pledge when representatives from Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Musalli Committee have recently called on the business leader at his residence in Bashundhara Residential Area of the capital.

Sayem Sobhan Anvir, chief adviser of the Musalli committee, has also promised to send 100 people to Saudi Arabia for performing Umrah Hajj by December this year.

Baitul Mukarram mosque was launched with Jummah prayers on 25 January in 1963. From then, the mosque used to be run by Baitul Mukarram Society.

After the country’s independence, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through an ordinance in 1975 established Islamic Foundation, merging Baitul Mukarram Society and Islamic Academy.

Baitul Mukarram has a capacity to accommodate 30,000 Musallis together. However, the number of devotees increases to over 40,000 during Jummah prayers on Friday.

During the meeting, the Musalli committee said Baitul Mukarram is yet to have a rich library despite many Islamic scholars and foreigners say prayers at the mosque.

The Musalli committee requested Bashundhara Group to set up a modern library to turn Baitul Mukarram into a centre of Islamic research and development.

The industrial conglomerate has been extending support to Islamic Research Centre for the last three decades to carry out research and education activities.

Getting the request, Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir accepted their proposal and assured them of providing all-out support for the development of the national mosque having permission from Islamic Foundation.

Hailing the announcement, the committee members offered special prayers seeking welfare of the Bashundhara Group Managing Director and his family members.
