Bashundhara Cement Technical Seminar Held

Aseminar styled ‘Bashundhara Cement Technical Seminar’ was held at the conference room of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Saturday.

Chief Engineer of DSCC Md Zahangir Alam attended the seminar as the chief guest and Superintending Engineer Nurul Amin as the special guest. Executive engineers, assistant engineers and sub-assistant engineers of different projects were also present.

Md Saiful Islam Helaly, Chief Marketing Promotion Officer, Bashundhara Group, Eng Saroj Kumar Barua, Manager, Technical Support, Cement Sector, Bashundhara Group, and other officials attended the seminar.

Lauding the role of Bashundhara Cement for organizing the seminar, Chief Engineer of DSCC Md Zahangir Alam said this seminar has helped the officials concerned acquire knowledge of modern technology.

He also said that he would send a team of engineers to Bashundhara Cement factory to acquire a firsthand knowledge of modern technology.

The engineers said that the ready-mix concrete being used at present is not of good quality compared to the one produced at the very beginning. It is being damaged within a short time of its use, they observed.

They also suggested installing mini batching plant near the construction site.

Md Saiful Islam Helaly delivered the welcome address at the seminar. He highlighted the activities of Bashundhara Group and its sister concerns.

He expressed the hope that Bashundhara Cement would secure the top position in the cement market by 2015.

Saroj Kumar Barua presented a pictorial report on various issues like cement manufacturing technology, gradual development of technology, nature, and characteristics of the cement currently available in the market, and use of different kinds of cement for various purposes.

He also focused on the utility and effectiveness of Blast Furnace Slag as an ingredient.

The seminar discussed Bashundhara Cement and its special features such as long-term durability, resistance to harmful sulfur and chloride as well as a generation of lesser heat during hydration.

Various types of cracks in concrete also came up for discussion.

The seminar concluded that Bashundhara Cement is the most effective for use in the coastal areas.
